Citroen Reveals Wild Rubis Concept

Citroen revealed the new DS Wild Rubis at the Shanghai motor show today. A plug-in hybrid concept previewing a forthcoming DS-brand SUV, the Wild Rubis measures 4700mm long, 1950mm wide and 1590mm tall. It is said to blend powerful and sophisticated style with creative technology.

The Wild Rubis concept is fitted with full-LED headlights, made up of three mobile lighting modules. These are surrounded by scrolling indicator lights at the base and a diapason-shaped light signature on the edge to bring the concept’s unique and hi-tech glaze to life. Every time the concept car starts, the three lighting modules in the headlights and special sound effects combine to create a unique feature.

According to Citroen, the DS Wild Rubis makes crystal-like whispering sounds that have been specially developed to amplify the various lighting configurations (headlights and indicators). The movement of the three lighting modules is accompanied by a mechatronic sound effect that highlight the concept’s advanced technology.

Though the concept car on show was devoid of an interior, the Wild Rubis’ 2900mm-long wheelbase indicates that interior space should prove plentiful.

The production DS SUV will be built in China upon the C5 chassis rather than the new EMP2 platform which will underpin every compact and mid-size PSA product in the next few years.

A large DS sedan – previewed in concept form by the Numero 9 at last year’s Auto China in Beijing – and another smaller sedan will follow the SUV model launch.
