Simon Cox has been appointed to the role of Design Director for Infiniti London, a company the 53-year-old Brit has been consulting at for the last few years.
Responsible for overseeing Nissan’s luxury brand design activities in Europe, Cox will head-up a new design studio in London set to open in October. He will report to Infiniti Executive Director of Design, Alfonso Albaisa.
“Simon brings an enormous wealth of passion and experience to our design team in London. His arrival will enable us to further develop our unique design language,” said Albaisa.
The appointment comes as Infiniti aims to concentrate its design efforts to more clearly differentiate its vehicles from those of parent company Nissan. The luxury offshoot has been struggling to find a foothold in the crowded luxury segment dominated by the premium German carmakers and its Japanese arch-rival Lexus.
Cox is a 30 year veteran who’s CV includes the Cadillac Cien, Imaj and Converj concepts – the latter informing the forthcoming production ELR design. He’s also worked as a consultant on the Infiniti Emerg-e concept, which made its debut in Geneva last year.
Over the course of his career Cox has worked for Peugeot, Ford, Lotus and Isuzu, where he was responsible for the 1999 Vehicross.
We’re hoping Cox will be able to leverage his relationship and experience to bring this and other concepts to fruition.
