Infiniti Unwraps Vision Gran Turismo Concept

Gamers rejoice! The Infiniti Vision Gran Turismo is now available for download

Infiniti has unwrapped the Vision Gran Turismo concept, a virtual vehicle developed through close collaboration with the creators of the Gran Turismo racing game franchise.

The Infiniti Vision Gran Turismo is a project that started as an ambitious internal global design competition to ‘design a pure Infiniti GT car’. The winning model was born from the theme put forward by Infiniti’s design team in Beijing, China.

Interestingly, Infiniti’s designers created the design with conventional sketching, which moved into a digital design phase before modelers developed a full-size scale model. It was then returned to the digital medium. This means that there’s a full-size physical model of this car kicking around somewhere! We’re holding out hope that we may one day get to see it.

Whilst this route is aligned with current vehicle design processes, it’s fairly unique that Infiniti went to such great lengths in conceiving a vehicle destined to live in the virtual world. Only Mercedes, Nissan, GM and Volkswagen have created scale models of their GT6 vehicles (the FT-1 doesn’t count as it was entered as an afterthought – it is also the one car that actually has a chance making production.)

As with other vehicles created for GT6, the Infiniti project was more than a mere design exercise. The vehicle underwent thorough testing for both aerodynamics and engine performance to ensure the theoretical calculations were accurately represented. The front mid-ship powertrain layout ensures a near perfect 45:55 front/rear weight distribution while the under-floor airflow control, front and rear diffusers and uniquely shaped rear spoiler optimize the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

Though the Vision Gran Turismo was specifically created for the Gran Turismo 6 racing game, Infiniti says it provides a vision of what a high performance Infiniti could look like in the future. We’ll take that with a grain of salt.
