Tect Taxi, Tesla Coupe and Camaro

Sung Young Kim showed off a good body of work in the form of the Tect Taxi, Tesla Coupe and Transformers-inspired Camaro concept at this year’s Art Center Summer Degree Show.

Unlike other students who showed pristine freshly painted models, Kim chose to show his models in clay, a refreshing approach which can also prove risky: there’s no way to hide errors with body-filler. Still, they all displayed a methodical understanding of the design process, and we enjoyed the fact that he exhibited an underlying entertainment angle.

It must be noted, however, that there was no need for body-filler. The surfaces on all of his models were true and had proper volume. We particularly liked his modular taxi project, which demonstrated mature yet restrained surfacing and looked properly futuristic.
